D1GP season opener

The D1GP has ended in America and was allready gone in Europe. They are now focusing on the Japanese market. The first round was at the ‘new’ Ebisu track. I say new because the have new tarmac in place.

Kawabata from Team Toyo won the first round in his blue S15

Kazuyoshi Okachan from Yashio factory wasn’t so lucky, he crashed his S15 into the wall. He was together with Kuniaki Takahashi who drives a JZX100 in a Tsuiso drift. In front off the wall his wheels locked en he went hard agaisns the wall.

Here you can see Ken Nomura and his ER34 up close and personal. The car has the new bodykit from Uras together with the new Blitz Racing Wheels. The cars output is now 520hp. With his new setup he became second.

Third place went to Kazuhiro Tanaka from Team Orange, he drove the GDB Impreza

Here you can see the track layout from above. I have painted the way they drift trough the corners

D1GP USA Season cancelled

A little voice in the back of my head was telling me this was gonna happen. I was at the first outing of the D1 in Europe, at that time it was special and everybody wanted to be a part of it.

Then came the rumors and the truth and now it has come to this. It is sad but maybe it is for the best. Let the D1GP concentrate on their own market.

D1 GRAND PRIX ANNOUNCES THE CANCELATION OF 2008 POINTS SERIES

TORRANCE, CA (February 10, 2008) – D1 Grand Prix USA has announced the cancellation of 2008 point series events.

Due to issues and timing from the Japan series, the D1 Grand Prix USA series is being cancelled for the 2008 year. After a successful championship event last November at Irwindale Speedway, we vigorously attempted to launch the 2008 U.S. series but have been unable to due to Japan’s delay on decisions and their focus on the Japan series. Our goal is to continue elevating and expanding the drift culture to the world. But at this time the official word from Japan is to focus on the Japan series for 2008.

It has been formally decided not to hold an event series in the U.S. but the “All Star World Championship” in November at Irwindale speedway is still scheduled to take place.

D1 Grand Prix apologizes for the series cancellation in the U.S. and plans to return the series next year.

Thank you D1 Fans.
